Engines passed a certain time in the game I forget when, I could check, but all engines after this period can't be " transversed " making that option to transverse a transmission useless... unless you pre-designed engines during that ERA it was allowed...
I noted it for a while but found it was a bug after a transverse transmission, when available can't be hooked to anything unless you made a transversed engine earlier in the game
