[FIXED]Car Body Customization

Will users be able to customize the bodies of their cars? Such as fender flairs, scoops, spoilers, and bumper shape.

If so, how would that work?

Yes! We have already implemented exterior customization in this up coming version. In the next few weeks we'll be hiring artist to generate more content for the game. The tools which they'll use to test their work will be released public for your enjoyment. The tools won't be feature complete nor do they represent the finished version, but they will give you a rough idea of how the system works.

In a nut shell, at the start of the car design phase you select a Body Style such as "Full-Sized Sedan", "Micro", "Minivan", etc. You will then select a chassis that will work with the body style, an engine that will work with the chassis and a transmission that will work with the engine/chassis.

When you go to design the body you are given a list of different base meshes(a 3d model) each with their own unique curves and modifications. Once you select a base mesh you proceed to morph the mesh the way you want it to look.

We give you an area list such as "Front", "Rear", "Trunk", "Complete", "Roof", "Fenders", etc. then inside that list we give what you can modify. So lets say we select "Front", we'll have a list of sliders for "Bumper Length", "Bumper Curve", "Grill Curve", "Hood Length", "Hood Curve", and so forth.
The car will morph given the amount you move the slider. So if you were to move "Bumper Length" to 100% the bumper will stick out very far.

On top of that we have "Accessories" which are pretty much anything that isn't the base of the body. Example: "Mirrors", "Tires", "Grills", "Headlights", etc. You attach these to the mesh where you want them, and morph their sizes/heights/and alignment. (There is still a little work to make this more user friendly.)

Last you can change materials on certain things such as the wheels. Different paint on the cars (solid paint colors sadly). Although there is still some work to be done in this area.

As far as limitations, it's whatever the artist and modders throw at it. The system is designed to be fairly flexible at adding new content.
