Just an idea that came to my mind as i read news about a germany company who wants to start a carsharing project in munich with 50 units of the Hyundai IX35 Fuel Cell car.
Since there are just a handful of hydrogen fuel stations around they have to focus this effort to munich.
The company itself is a specialist in hydrogen technology and wants to bring this closer to the people and of course politics.
--- Now, where does this relate to gear city?
As the components.xml reveals (haven't played that far yet ) you will be able to make use of electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel / cars.
To create somewhat more realism (and take some money out of the game) i'd suggest the possibility to create a supply network for the different fuel / car types.
This could be done in the fashion of creating a branch or factory via the map menu. You select how big the supply network should be in / around a city and press "Build" - after a certain time, the network is fully developed to support your cars. This should take a good chunk of money out of your company for building and upholding the network while creating good sales and image.
So this should logically lead to a boost in the corresponding car sales which use these "fuel types", a city's per capita $, infrastructure and city growth (cause it's creating jobs and infrastructure) and a new Prestige category i'd suggest: Sustainability.
Sustainability could also be influenced by the fuel economy, quality (low quality production using not so environmental friendly ressources, methods and so on) and dependability (the longer you can use your car, the less repair it needs = less impact on the environment etc.) of each car you made. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand it could be influenced by Lobbyism which i'll create a suggestion later on and link it in here.
While upholding these networks you could be able to license them to other companies just in the way you license your carparts. You select the city you want to open for others to license (use) your supply network, select a signing fee and the royalties. They don't have to pay the high costs of creating an network and you can get some money back for doing so.
This can also play a role in contracts. Let's say the military or civilian companies want you to make a certain car (electric, hydrogen, hybrid) and you get a bonus for signing cause you have a supply network in the city the contract is written out and higher chances on actually winning the contract by having it.
God this sounds so good ouh... gotta pick up my girlfriend, will continue later...
It's later... yet... that's basically it off to Lobbyism.
