Hello, when I opened Steam today it said that I had to install Gearcity again, and basically I don't understand why; after installing the game again about three times I can't create a new game because it crashes to desktop. What can I do?
How long ago was the last time you played? And have you changed any hardware since then?
Both of the following will delete your save games, if you want to back up your save games, do this:
1) Open the main game folder folder:

2) Go into the GearCity folder, and then copy and paste the SaveGame folder to your desktop.
First thing you can try is clearing the in game cache, open up the Settings Editor:
http://wiki.gearcity.info/lib/exe/fetch....ditor2.png , and then choose "Clear Cache/Savegames" this will delete all the save games and cache data. You then need to verify game cache in steam:

If that doesn't work, try doing a clean install.
1) Open the main game folder folder:

2) This is Optional, if you want to back up your save games, go into the GearCity folder, and then copy and paste the SaveGame folder to your desktop. Return back to the main folder.
3) Return to Steam, while leaving the folder open.
4) Uninstall the game.
5) When the game is finished uninstalling, delete everything that remains in the main game folder.
6) Reboot the computer
7) Reinstall the game.
8) If you did #2, copy and paste the old save game folder over top of the new save game folder. You will have to do #1 again.
I played for the last time yesterday morning; when I turned on my laptop this morning Steam didn't have the "Play" option but instead the "Install" option and I was kind of surprised: after installing it I tried opening one of my save files which crashed the games and after that I tried creating a brand new game which also caused a crash to desktop. I haven't changed any hardware.
Ah, Steam does that every once in a while.

It's happened twice to me on Linux. Hasn't done it to me yet in Windows or OSX though.
Anyway something corrupted in Steam. Clean install is the best way to go. Follow the 1-8 steps I give above.
I ended up deleting everything under the Gearcity folder in Steamapps and it worked, thanks for your help Eric
.
Glad you got it work! Not much I can do with Steam breaking stuff.
