[FIXED] OpenGL w/Dynamic Report Size: Crash on emission guide and vehicle projection
#1
Version: 2.3.0.0
System: Win10

Not sure if this is related to specific driver version for my GPU/setup, but I can consistently reproduce a crash when enabling OpenGL and Dynamic report size when visiting a vehicle projection or city emission guide

Last part of debug log when it happens which seems relevant:

Wrong log, can you provide the log files for GearCity and not CEF.

https://wiki.gearcity.info/doku.php?id=t...am_logfile

You can just upload it here as an attachment.

Also, if you can't find the log file, please let me know what operating system you're using.

Sorry for the late reply. For some reason, the forums didn't email me that you replied.

Sadly, there is nothing in the log files indicating a crash or a reason. I tried to duplicate the issue on my Windows 10 machine, but I could not. The differences being that I am on AMD and I'm using a 2k monitor instead of a 4k.

A few things for you to try. Try disabling fullscreen. Run the game in a window and see if that helps.

If you have any anti-virus software, be sure to whitelist all of the game files in the "2ndGear" folder. Something might be blocking the texture from moving between the web browser and the game.

OpenGL is driver dependent. Double check to make sure you have the latest ones from nVidia. Unfortunately, I don't have any nVidia video cards, so I can't test it out further.

Let me know if any of the above works, or not, and we'll go from there.

Oh, it works without crash if I disable dynamic report size, sorry if that wasn't clear in the problem description.

I tried disabling fullscreen, but it still crashes in a window. I also tried disabling AV without change (the directory was already whitelisted anyways).

I understand. If I have Windows 10 + OpenGL + Windowed or Full Screen + Dynamic Report Size enabled, I do not crash on any report. I can not duplicate the crash with Dynamic Report Size on Windows.

The reports are just HTML web pages, so it shouldn't matter which webpage you load. It's a webpage. If it's only crashing on these two pages, something fishy is going on. So, if you have anti-virus software, whitelist everything in the 2ndGear folder. If you have such software, it's likely doing a Heuristic scan, and the loading of these specific pages or the creation of these pages in combination with the functions called for dynamic page size triggers an intervention that crashes the program.

Otherwise, the issue is related to GPU/Drivers/Renderer. I do not own any nVidia products (since Geforce 440m), so I can not test nVidia drivers. I gave you a couple of things you could try to see if we can narrow down a workaround for the crashes. And then we can go from there.

Yeah, I should probably stop editing after posting; " I tried disabling fullscreen, but it still crashes in a window. I also tried disabling AV without change (the directory was already whitelisted anyways). "

That said, tried a few more things and it is impacted by the UI Scaling set; it does not crash in my case with UI scale at +30%, but higher than that it does (at least at 50% and onwards, didn't find the exact threshold). Can it be that scaling is not taken into consideration for the size needed of the report and it overflows?

Actually, following up on that, going to UI scaling of +200% it crashes just after starting the game (around asking for the tutorial), on both the Win10 gaming-pc and a linux laptop.

Thanks, I was able to duplicate the scaling crash. I'll throw my time at it tonight when I get into the office.

The issue should be fixed with the latest update I just released. Please let me know if it fixes all the issues you mentioned in this thread. Thank you!
