  newbie question!
Posted by: ttjay89 - 06-12-2014, 07:07 AM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (7)

Hi

I am new to the game and have been playing it for a few days now and i think this is a brilliant game! i work in the Motor industry and work with many of the big Car Makers and i think this game is a great representation of how the car making industry works!

I have a question in that i have found that playing this game making just 2 models seems to be much more cost effective and i find that if i make say 5 models to be sold at the same time and the years go by and i replace the current models with the new replacements there is no easy way to fully discontiune the cars, for example as i go into the interface to set distribution i some times find there are cars still sat there from 10 years preivious that i no longer make and the only real solution is to go into each individual branch and delete them which if you have expanded a vast dealer network across the world takes a very long time!
it would be helpful if there was a way to get rid of these old models with just one click and it would do the same for the rest of your dealer branches.

  How was it made?

Anyone know what program and such was used to make this? As a avid fan of this game and also a game developer myself I would like to know what program or game engine (If any) was used to make this.

  question on overall rating
Posted by: RatAttack - 06-08-2014, 09:27 AM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (2)

Is the overall rating its own separate rating or is it the 'overall rating' ? And if it is the 'overall rating' it seems to me there is some issues with it. I did a search and could not find anything but maybe I searched wrong. I can post more if it is not listed already.

  A Question from Newbie
Posted by: HSJ_ADV - 06-06-2014, 09:53 PM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (5)

I have a question about the economic system of the game. It is about the town development progress.

Does, our involvement in a city will effect the local economy? For example, I build a factory in Beijing, Qing, to sell my cars to Japan. Because the game tell me that my factory absorb hundreds of workers, then, my factory will effect the growth of Beijing's economy? A car factory is indeed a big corporation. So it should improve the local economy in the game. But I don't know. Will it effect the local?

  Few more odd things
Posted by: RatAttack - 06-06-2014, 03:33 PM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (6)

Here are a couple more things that seem odd to me.

A: On the mega controller thing if you add a car to the branch in the town the factory is in, it defaults to shipping priority and pitch priority . So when you go to the branch and look at the distribution it lists those words. But if I go to the branch itself and set the distribution it defaults to normal.

I had a game where I changed my factories to make only 1 car style per factory. And for some reason the branch that had the words shipping priority instead of normal would not take the new cars until I reset the distribution so it said normal.

B: no mouse over icons on the desktop.

C: when I load a game there is no indication to what settings I had when I started the game.

D: No indication to where my HQ is located well if there is it is not obvious to me. It only matters because of what you mention about war contracts.

E: the modify button on the research screen, the first item you select does not show the cost to modify and it seems to modify it when you click the button because it bankrupted me last game. I was thinking something would pop up but it never did and I spent a bunch.

(this is same as last time just much shorter, not really even suggestions just things that seemed odd)

  Hi new here
Posted by: HSJ_ADV - 06-06-2014, 07:20 AM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hi new here. I just bought Gear City in Steam several hours ago and played it for hours. Interesting game, remind me of an old game called Detroit. Not just that, but this game is basically the modern version of Detroit.

The problem is, the 3D car design is not fun. Placing parts (specially the wheels) is tiresome. So, I think that if this 3D car is actually not important for the car selling power, then why bother to include it to the game. But if it's matter, dragging and putting the wheel is also not necessary. You can just let the players to choose the list of the wheel and they should be place automatically there. It is better for me to have a multiple choice of wheel type on the list, rather than bothering to put it to the chassis like what the Gear City has.

Other than that (the 3d car design), this game is excellent and enjoyable. I played this game for hours, and still want to play it more now. But it will be better if the 3d design doesn't hindered the fun with it's tiresome problem. What if the dev create a feature that enable the player to skip the 3d car design (at least until it finished and can be enjoyed to it's fullest).

  Potential Buyer Question
Posted by: Grim.Reaper - 06-06-2014, 05:03 AM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (5)

Hello,

First of all, I wanted to say it looks like you have a very good concept for a game and wish you the best in its launch. Before I purchase, had a few questions.

1) If you are not an extremely knowledgeable car person, can you still enjoy and understand the game? I know nothing about cars but I would enjoy a management sim like this, I think.

2) After you build a model of a car let's say in 1900...can you continue to modify and release a new version of the same car just with teaks? For example, certain cars always just release a new model versus completely changing the car. Does the game make this process easy?

3) At most auto companies, they have tons of cars/models.....how many cars/models can you have per company each year? Is there a limit? How many do typical people have when playing the game?

4) I know you can't give precise information, but how far away do you think the full release is? Month? 3 Months? Year?

Thanks and good luck!

How much access to engine types should we have?
Posted by: Arakash - 06-05-2014, 07:39 AM - Forum: Archive: General Discussion - Replies (22)

I was having a interesting discussion on IRC and i thought id get some more opinions on it.

What types of components, especially engines, do you think it is appropriate to have access to in early game?(1900-1910)

In older versions of the game, i was used to being limited to Straight engines usually 2-4 cylinders or Single Cylinders.
In the most recent version, i have access to 6 and 8 cylinders, as well as Straight, V engines and often more.

What do you think should be available to your average player in this timeframe?

I know very little of the history and technical of this timeframe, so i wont speak to that.
I can say that from a gameplay perspective, i think you should need to build components and perhaps do some research to get over 4 cylinders and anything other than Single/Straight engines.
